Remedial & Sports Massage

Remedial Sports Massage Therapy is the management, manipulation & rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons & ligaments.

Remedial Sports Massage helps to break up adhesions that can develop between the Fascia within muscles in the body; which in turn will improve joint & muscle suppleness and aid mobility & flexibility through faster recovery.

Remedial Sports Massage combines the use of Swedish strokes plus more intensive techniques such as:

  • Compression
  • Deep/Cross-Fibre Friction
  • Neuromuscular Technique (NMT)
  • Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
  • Soft Tissue Release (STR)
  • Connective Tissue Massage (CTM)
  • Myofascial Release (MFR)
  • Client Postural Assessment (Read More)

All of which are used for releasing deeper tissues and the prevention & treatment of sports injuries, aches & pains.

Remedial Massage is the treatment of injuries and Sports Massage can be used as part of a training programme to help prevent injury by identifying & treating current muscle weaknesses & problem areas, part of rehabilitation from injury, part of a warm up before an event, maintain muscular performance between an event and wind-down after an event. Injury Care - The "PRICE" Method

If you have been injured in the last 72 hours a massage is not advisable. Self care that you must apply to the affected area for this initial period to reduce inflammation, pain & swelling associated with the injury

comes in form of the "PRICE" method:

PROTECTION - This refers to preventing further injury by protecting the injured area

REST - Stop and rest from the activity or anything that causes that pain or discomfort.

ICE - Apply a cold pack or ice to the area every 3-4 hours for 10 minutes at a time to help reduce bleeding, bruising & swelling. Ensure you do not apply the cold directly onto skin; wrap in a tea towel or alike material. Make sure you only keep the ice in place until the skin goes white, if red cold has been applied for too long.

COMPRESSION - Apply a compression support or bandage to the area, this will help with reducing the bleeding & swelling along with support. If at any point you feel numbness, pins & needles or any colour change in the extremities (hands or feet), the bandage is cutting your circulation so loosen or remove it.

ELEVATION - Raise the affected body part above the heart level as much as you can and rest there if you can, this helps the blood flow back to the heart, reduces brusing, bleeding & swelling.

Once the symptoms mentioned have subsided then massage is acceptable. Please don't hesitate to contact Emma if you have any questions or queries: 07756907378 or using the contact form.
